Helios has appointed Luis Carmona as Country Manager Spain and Project Director for the Monzon Natural Hydrogen Project in Aragon.

Luis has been working for more than 40 years in the oil and gas industry with Repsol and other companies, managing onshore and offshore exploration, development and gas underground storage projects, production operations, business development and planning, mainly in Spain and North Africa. He holds titles of Sr. Mining Engineer (Madrid School of Mines) and MBA (IESE-Harvard).

Luis has most recently been managing the Viura Project, for the exploration, development and production of a high-pressure natural gas field in the nearby region of La Rioja. The role included the acquisition of 3D seismic over 23 municipalities, the drilling of three deep wells, the construction of the facilities and the early production of gas some two years ahead of the concession’s grant.

Helios CEO, Ian Munro, commented that “Luis brings a wealth of relevant experience to the project and will be accountable for activities in Spain, including the drilling and testing of the Monzon-2 appraisal well in 2025. The Board of Helios is delighted to welcome an individual of Luis’s calibre to the Project and such an appointment sets the Company up for a successful appraisal programme and potential production from Europe’s first natural hydrogen project before the end of the decade”.
