The Ordinary environmental application for the Monzón-2 appraisal well, which was submitted in March of this year, has commenced a public consultation process.

Helios Country Manager, Luis Carmona and CEO, Ian Munro met with Monzón residents, representatives of the local and regional business community, and ecologists to discuss the appraisal well activities planned for 2026. The scope of the discussions covered all aspects of the planned operations in the Ordinary environmental impact statement and the associated restoration plan, together with the potential project scope if the well proves commercial volumes of natural hydrogen and helium.

The Ordinary submission for the Monzón-2 well represents the highest level of the environmental approvals process.

The Mayor of Monzón, Isaac Claver explained that “this round of meetings is very positive to clear up any doubts that may arise and to learn first-hand about the situation of the project. This is how I conveyed it to the company and I want to thank them for their willingness to share opinions and information on the development of the project. Right now, they are pending environmental authorisation to drill the well and, in the future, depending on the results of the drilling, the phase of execution and extraction of hydrogen would be assessed. In both phases, our intention as a City Council is to continue promoting this type of informative meeting and that there is maximum transparency”.

Luis Carmona commented “that the environmental application requested is the highest level of those allowed and will be applied to the first well in Spain that seeks natural hydrogen along with other associated gases. In the stakeholder meetings we have conveyed the safety focus with which the work is going to be carried out and we thank the City Council for its initiative and collaboration”.
